Problem
Despite rising rates of anxiety, depression, and stress among college students, many are reluctant to seek help. Barriers include fear of judgment, high costs, limited awareness, and low trust in AI-based tools. Students reported feeling overwhelmed by overly clinical solutions or scripted, inauthentic chatbot interactions.
"How do we build trust between students and AI in a way that encourages accessible, emotionally intelligent mental health support?"
Solution
Bean delivers digestible wellness support with a casual tone, grounded visuals, and an empathetic mascot. We designed the app to feel safe and personal, with features like private journaling, task goals, daily affirmations, and secure input systems. The interface avoids overwhelming users with too many choices or sterile aesthetics.
Skills & Tools
UX Research & User Psychology — Surveys, interviews, and persona development
Wireframing & Prototyping — Low to high-fidelity mockups in Figma
UI Design — Style tiles, branding, accessible color palette, character illustration
Interaction Design — Microinteractions, check-in logic, mascot feedback loops
Usability Testing — Iterative feedback cycles and performance tracking
Key Achievements
Conducted 20+ user interviews and 90+ survey responses
Trust ratings improved from 3.2 → 4.7/5 after mascot integration
Over 80% of participants reported they would use Bean “daily or weekly”
